Novi Sad is the largest city of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and its administrative center, after Belgrade the second city in Serbia according to the number of inhabitants and area. It is only 80 km from Belgrade. Founded in 1694, Novi Sad has long been the center of Serbian culture, which is why it is often called “Serbian Athens”. The city lies on the banks of the river Danube, between 1252 and 1262 km of river flow. On the left bank of the Danube there is a plain part of the town (Backa), while the hilly part of the city (Srem) is located on the right bank, on the slopes of Fruška Gora. Petrovaradin Fortress is located on the right bank of the Danube, in Petrovaradin (Novi Sad), on the Petrovaradin rock. At the site of the previous medieval building, the present fortress was built by Austria from 1692 to 1780 due to the constant danger from the Turks and the vicinity of the border with the Ottoman Empire. Due to its size and dominance, it is also called Gibraltar on the Danube. In July each year, the EXIT music festival is one of the most popular festivals in Europe that gathers worldwide popular performers and audiences from around the world.

Sremski Karlovci, a picturesque town on the slopes of Fruska Gora, is located 12 km from Novi Sad and 9 km from Petrovaradin. They say that the best wines in Srem are born in Sremski Karlovci. Here, the wines were drank for hundreds of years and reached the glory of the world, and the emperor Marcus Aurelius Prob was brought to this region by the Roman times. Karlovac wines are also presented in European capitals, from the court in Vienna, through the Czech Republic and Poland, Switzerland, Belgium and Moldova, to the London corsage. Sremski Karlovci keep a rich treasure of Serbian culture and spirituality, full of historical value. Today, wine and grapes are celebrated on its streets with the poetry of the great poet Branko Radičević, whose bust stands in front of the Karlovac gymnasium, the first Serbian gymnasium founded in 1791. Every September is marked “Grape Days” known as “Grožđebal” with the most famous Karlovac wines, among which “Bermet” is served on the famous “Titanic”. During the manifestation of the grape harvest, numerous cultural, commercial and sports events are organized as well as an exhibition of grapes and wines. The most interesting events are: carnival procession, children’s maskenbal, prize game “Grapes from the airplane”, bicycle caravan “In hike vineyards”, diverse and rich cultural and artistic and entertainment program, as well as a series of sports competitions.
